Türken sind ein Teil Deutschlands. Sie kämpfen mit Alltagsproblemen, leiden unter Arbeitslosigkeit, lösen Erziehungsprobleme, sind Diskussionen wie Mobbing am Arbeitsplatz ausgesetzt, kaufen Häuser oder Wohnungen, jubeln nach einem Tor und gehen gern auch in eine Bierstube – genauso wie die Deutschen auch.So würde man annehmen, dass die Deutsch-Türken nach mehr als 57 Jahren der Zuwanderungsgeschichte und inzwischen in vierter Generation angekommen sind, sich angepasst haben und in sich selbst eine homogene Community sind. Ist es aber tatsächlich der Fall, wie sieht die Realität aus, sind alle Vorurteile überstanden? Gedreht mitten im Ruhrgebiet, in Gelsenkirchen, basiert der Film auf wahren Erlebnissen und erzählt von Betül und Can, einem  jungen deutsch-türkischen Paar, dessen Beziehung plötzlich hart auf die Probe gestellt wird.

Betül ist eine junge, selbstbewusste, bildhübsche Frau. Hat im jungen Alter beruflichen Erfolg. Seit ihrer Kindheit träumt sie, an einem Schönheitswettbewerb teilzunehmen. Die Mutter ist gestorben, Betül hängt deswegen sehr an ihrem Vater, sie wiederum ist Vaters Prinzessin.  Can, ihr Freund, möchte sich einen Namen im Kampfsport machen. Wirkt unter Freunden sehr sicher, ist aber des Öfteren verunsichert, wenn er Gegenteiliges hört. Lebt in einer konservativen Familie, der Vater zuweilen streng, die Mutter fürsorglicher. Eines Tages erhält Betül die Bestätigung für ihre Finalteilnahme an einer Miss-Wahl. Auf einmal ist aber nichts mehr, wie es war: Can, der sich von Familie und Freunden unter Druck gesetzt fühlt, stellt seinerseits Betül unter Druck. Was wird am Ende obsiegen – der Druck und die Vorurteile  oder die Einsicht und die Gefühle?

Der Film „Die Wahl – Tercih“ beleuchtet anhand einer Miss-Wahl Vorurteile, provoziert zuweilen. So erzählt er in einer Kombination von dramatischem und tragikomischen Stil von Zerrissenheit der Deutschtürken untereinander, ihren Konflikten, von nicht überwundenen Vorurteilen und zuletzt der Hoffnung, dass es die richtige Wahl ist, die obsiegen wird.

Tercih (TR)

Hikayenin merkezinde Betül ve Can var. Betül, özgüveni yüksek, genç ve güzel bir kadın. Genç yaşta mesleki başarıya sahiptir. Çocukluğundan beri bir güzellik yarışmasına katılmayı hayal etmiştir. Annesinin vefatından sonra babasına daha çok düşkün olmuştur ve babasının prensesidir.
Erkek arkadaşı Can, dövüş sanatlarında kendine bir isim yapmak isteyen, kendinden emin gibi görünsede çevresinde aksini duyduğunda afallayan bir yapıya sahiptir. Muhafazakar bir ailede yaşamaktadır, babası katı ve sert yansırken, annesi oğluna daha düşkündür.

Betül’ün bir güzellik yarışmasından katılım teyidi aldığı gün ise bazı şeyler aniden değişecektir: Ailesi ve arkadaşlarının baskısı üzerine Can baskıyı Betül’e yansıtır ve onu bir tercihe zorlar.

Betül’ün tercihi ve kazanan kim yada ne olacak – baskı ve önyargılar mı yoksa duygu ve hisler mi?

The Choice (EN)

Turkish people are a part of Germany. They also deal with same daily challenges, solve educational problems of children, struggling to find jobs cause of the bad market situation, deal with relationship problems, getting involved in discussions about mobbing at workplaces, buy houses or apartments, celebrate a goal in a soccer match and visit probably a pub after the match – just like Germans do. So, is it right, to assume,  the immigrants who came more then 57 years ago to Germany are fitted in Germany and their culture? Is this the reality or are the prejudices more strong?

Filmed in center of “Ruhrgebiet”, in the city of Gelsenkirchen, the movie is based on real experiences and tells about Betül and Can, a young German-Turkish couple whose relationship is suddenly being put to the test.

Betül is a self-confident, beautiful young lady, has success in her profession. Since her childhood she has dreamed of taking a part in a beauty contest. Mother has died, when she was very little, that’s why she is daddy’s princess and they they have a strong daughter-father- relationship.

Can, her boyfriend, want to make career as a professional boxer. He seems super confident among friends, but often confused if he hears some contrary opinions. His family is conservative, his father is strict, mother more caring. One day Betül is receiving the final confirmation letter for the beauty contest, this moment changes everything. Can, who is feeling pressured from his family and friends, is putting pressure on his girlfriend Betül. Who will turn out as the winner, real love or all of the prejudices?

„Die Wahl” (The Choice) illuminates prejudices on the base of a beauty contest and provokes with the theme. With a dramatic and tragicomic style “Die Wahl” shows the conflicts of German-Turks and finally the hope to find the right choice.
